Estate and Business Planning – Counselor and Teacher

I practice law in the areas of estate and business planning. That area focuses on wills, trusts, probate, business planning and asset protection, exclusively. As an attorney and business adviser, my clients rely on my knowledge, skill and experience to craft plans that are narrowly tailored to their needs and will ultimately achieve their goals. The goals can range from very simple to very complicated, with simple wills and codicils on one spectrum and estate and gift tax planning utilizing limited partnerships and sales to defective grantor trusts on the other spectrum.

Although there are very different plans for very different clients, what they have in common is the client’s need of an underlying intangible; mainly, to understand the plan sufficiently enough to feel relief from the anxiety of the unknown. When clients understand what the plan is, how it works and why it works, coupled with a solid grasp of their options and possible outcomes, you solidify your attorney-client relationship. It’s easy to see in their eyes and smile, observe their head nods, and hear their deep exhalation of breadth in a sigh of relief.

I consider myself very good at explaining complicated concepts to people. I actually consider it one of my best skills. Yes, I consider it a skill. I developed it over the course of about 10 years during my tenure as a private tutor for Reading and Studying Solutions both during law school in South Florida and during my LL.M. in taxation in New York City (Manhattan). I taught a variety of subjects, including from math, science, reading, writing and standardized test preparation and coaching, as well as law school and the Florida bar examination. During this time, I worked with hundreds of students of all ages and abilities. I always found a way to connect with and reach students so they experienced the “light bulb” and ultimately excelled on their exams afterwards.

It goes without saying that I have applied this skill to my practice of law. The material is often more complicated, the stakes are higher and clients are more emotionally invested. My clients make informed decisions and appreciate my desire to explain things and my patience in doing so. It is but one aspect of the foundation of our commitment to meeting our clients’ needs and exceeding their expectations. For this reason, the financial planners and accountants that I work with also appreciate my ability to explain complicated concepts in a digestible manner. It helps us better work as team given the significant overlap in our fields. Our holistic approach to estate planning, business planning and financial planning is unique, efficient and effective.
